Please consult the appropriate health professional if you are struggling with issues of grief and loss FEELINGS??? We all have them, eh? Some of them are wonderful...gratitude, hope, peace, joy...but some of them we could do without...pain, sorrow, despair, rage...but could we really get by without them? Feelings are not bad or good, they just "are". (Feelings are value free). You can no more stop yourself from feeling hurt than you can stop the rain from falling...but you can deny, supress, ignore, transform those feelings if you choose. This is quite helpful at times; it is not a good idea to be in your anger with your boss, for instance, and a good time to practice ignoring or suppressing. The trouble comes when you get too practiced at denial and cannot "own" your feelings appropriately when it is "right" to do so. This is called being out of touch with your feelings. |
